Kelly holds a BMus in performance with Distinction from McGill University, and a MMus in performance from l'Universite de Montreal. Her principal teachers in Montreal were Timothy Hutchins, Heather Howes, and Denis Bluteau. As a student, she participated in private lessons and master classes with Geoffrey Gilbert and Peter Lloyd, as well as other well-known flutists. She has also studied privately with Toshio Takahashi, founder of the Suzuki method for flute. She was for many years a freelance musician in Montreal, where she maintained a studio of twenty-five private students. She was also Suzuki Flute Coordinator at the McGill Conservatory, before moving to southern Ontario in 2006. Kelly has been a regular clinician in public and private schools, and an adjudicator at music festivals, and she is invited to teach at workshops in Canada, the U.S, and abroad. She was appointed as a Registered Suzuki Teacher Trainer in May 2006 and is a regular contributor to the American Suzuki Journal.
